High performance and reliable bearings for the aerospace and aviation industry.

By combining innovative technology, technical expertise and advanced manufacturing equipment, we are able to develop and manufacture high performance and reliable bearings for the aerospace and aviation industry.

JTEKT offers a wide range of bearings for several applications in this field:

  • Aerospace
  • Airframes
  • Engine & gearbox
  • Landing system
  • Mechanical aircraft accessories
  • Swash plates
  • Transmission

 Experience and capabilities

We manufacture bearings for angle sensors of parabolic antennas as well as EXSEV ceramic bearings, used in special environments like satellites and other space mechanisms. JTEKT has developed Koyo EXSEV bearings for use in applications where conventional bearings are not suitable due to the severity of the conditions. The EXSEV series are produced using special materials and lubricants which protect the bearing in extreme environments (high and/or low temperatures, clean areas, corrosive environment, vacuum spaces etc.)

JTEKT produces high performance track rollers for flap and slat actuation systems, for civil and various other applications. The design of these products is customized for each application. They are manufactured from high temperature stainless steels and enhanced with special features to cope with the severe working conditions.

We also possess a long experience of the design and manufacturing of ball and cylindrical roller bearings for jet engine main shafts of aircrafts and helicopters. Those bearings must maintain high performance and efficiency in severe operating conditions over extended periods of time while supporting the main shaft’s ultra-high-speed rotation.

In addition, we also supply compact and light weight bearings for jet engine gearboxes, which  are specially designed to guarantee stable performance under high-temperature and high-speed operating conditions.

In addition to these core applications, JTEKT supplies various types of bearings (tapered roller bearings and needle roller bearings) for landing wheels, steering systems and other aircraft accessories.

Products:

  • EXSEV bearings
  • Track rollers
  • Solid race needle bearings
  • Combined needle bearings
  • Cylindrical roller bearings
  • Thrust needle and cylindrical roller bearings

FAQ

What is an angular contact ball bearing?

An angular contact ball bearing uses axially asymmetric races. An axial load passes in a straight line through the bearing, whereas a radial load takes an oblique path that tends to want to separate the races axially. So the angle of contact on the inner race is the same as that on the outer race. Angular contact bearings better support "combined loads" (loading in both the radial and axial directions) and the contact angle of the bearing should be matched to the relative proportions of each. The larger the contact angle (typically in the range 10 to 45 degrees), the higher the axial load supported, but the lower the radial load. In high speed applications, such as turbines, jet engines, and dentistry equipment, the centrifugal forces generated by the balls changes the contact angle at the inner and outer race. Ceramics such as silicon nitride are now regularly used in such applications due to their low density (40% of steel). These materials significantly reduce centrifugal force and function well in high temperature environments. They also tend to wear in a similar way to bearing steel—rather than cracking or shattering like glass or porcelain.

Most bicycles use angular-contact bearings in the headsets because the forces on these bearings are in both the radial and axial direction.
